Spring 2015 Update - Ben and Nic Sailing-Nacra 17

After a great winter in Miami where we won a Silver medal, we set off on our spring european tour. It turned out to be fairly eventful...

Our first stop was Portugal for some training. We got a good number of hours on the water under our belt in the beautiful conditions in Lagos. It was good playing in some swell and with the dolphins!

Next stop was Palma for our first Eurocup of the year. It was nice to have a lower key event to try a few things we were playing with in Lagos. We didn't get the result we wanted, but you learn from the good and the bad. Our lack of speed helped us to draw some useful conclusions regarding set up.

After our disappointment in Palma, we entered Hyeres World Cup Regatta all guns blazing! We sailed consistently, narrowly missing out on a medal, but putting in a solid 5th place. We were happy to be back in the mix across a wide range of conditions all week. Only the top 40 boats worldwide make it into the World Cup Regattas, it was a good result in a tough fleet. We are very happy that from our only and last two world cup regatta as a team (Miami & Hyeres) we scored a 2nd and 5th.

Now were back in England training, having a good old organise of our kit and getting geared up for our next few events. One more warm up Eurocup Regatta in Medemblick at the end of May, then we are off to our final world cup for a few months, Weymouth and Portland World Cup in the second week of June.

Last weekend Nic and I both went team racing, in much slower boats to normal, sailing in fireflies at the Wilson Trophy. Great to catch up with some of our friends. We both found time on distance judgements problematic there is a pretty big speed difference between Nacra 17s and fireflies. I am feeling happy as we beat Nic's team and came third overall.

Looking forward going faster in the Nacra again and getting back racing again!
