Alarming increase in domestic violence due to lockdown - Nick Manners for The Times
Commentary by Nick Manners, Partner in the Family department at Payne Hicks Beach, on domestic violence cases increasing during lockdown as shown in official court figures published by the Ministry of Justice on 25 March 2021.
Cases between October and December have increased 21 per cent compared with the same quarter in 2019. Nick describes the rise in domestic violence cases as the most concerning feature of the latest statistics and calls for this toxic by-product of lockdown to be addressed as a priority, not just in the courts, but also with early intervention to protect the most vulnerable. First published in The Times online on 25 March 2021 and in print on 26 March 2021, and reproduced with kind permission.
