Alastair Murdie retires as Senior Partner
On 31 May 2019 after an illustrious career at Payne Hicks Beach both as a private client solicitor, Head of Department and Senior Partner, Alastair Murdie, retires.
Alastair joined Payne Hicks Beach in 1986, became Head of Private Client in 2009 and then Senior Partner in 2010.
Alastair’s career has seen him specialise in a huge range of private client work involving major estates and probates and family businesses of all kinds and across the whole of the UK including, investment groups or trading groups, companies or partnerships. He advised on all aspects of estate planning and taxation matters and onshore and offshore trusts. Some of his work related to tax structures with a matrimonial context and he worked closely with the firm’s leading family department on such matters. He also dealt with taxation planning and structuring for agricultural landed estates and other property transactions.
Prior to joining Payne Hicks Beach, Alastair was formerly, and for many years, a senior lecturer at the College of Law and this legal knowledge combined with his long and successful private client practice gave him a significant reputation as an exceptional legal practitioner with long experience and trusted judgement.
Alastair received a wealth of accolades throughout his career. He has been ranked for many years as a leading individual in the law directory guides, including Chambers UK, Chambers HNW and The Legal 500 UK. Citywealth Leaders List also regularly listed Alastair as a Top 20 Leading Lawyer and a Leading Landed Estates and Property Lawyer. In 2018 and 2019, eprivateclient has named Alastair as one of the 50 most influential advisors.
Alastair has been instrumental in guiding the firm’s continued growth and success and hands over on 1 June 2019 to the newly appointed, Management Board comprising of Robert Brodrick (Chair), Dominic Crossley (Head of Dispute Resolution) and Jonathan Gatward (Head of Corporate), who with their dedication and commitment will ensure the firm continues to flourish.
