Victory for PHB Clients in Palma
Of the 10 classes competing in the Princess Sophia Regatta in Palma there were several victories for PHB clients.
In the Star class Iain Percy and Andrew "Bart" Simpson had been working on technical development following their success in Beijing and this Regatta was their first competitive outing since last September. They secured such a point advantage that they did not even have to compete in the final race and even then Iain is saying that there is further technical work to be done.
Ben Ainslie has been fighting hard to gain fitness following his return to the Finn class and was utterly dominant by winning 7 out of the 11 races. Even then, it was a close call with client Giles Scott who won 2 races at the beginning of the week and he finished second overall. Ed Wright, the current World Champion finished seventh.
There was also victory for client Paul Goodison in the 127 strong Laser class. It was down to he and two others as to who would secure a class win but Paul was first in the final Medal Race so to be top of the podium. Fellow Brit Nick Thompson was third.
New clients Luke Patience and Stu Bithell finished third in the highly competitive 470 men's class while Penny Clark and Katrina Hughes finished fourth in the 470 women. The new team of Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark did well to finish thirteenth overall in their first Regatta together and there are high hopes for them for the future.
Nick Dempsey secured a bronze in the windsurfer men's event whilst Bryony Shaw had a poor Regatta by her standards ending up in fourteenth place.
