AL MAKTOUM

We acted for HRH Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein in multi-faceted litigation in the Family Division of the High Court and the Court of Appeal.

Princess Haya had been married to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Prime Minister of the UAE.  The proceedings spanned several years and substantively involved welfare proceedings in connection with the children, Family Law Act proceedings for protective orders, Foreign Act of State and Immunity arguments, proceedings relating to telephone intercept of Princess Haya and her legal team and related financial matters.  This extraordinary litigation gave rise to seventeen reported judgments which can be viewed here, where PHB were successful in each and every case.  We successfully secured the care of the children for Princess Haya and her former husband was ordered to pay to her the extraordinary sum of £554M by way of financial settlement. The matter received global media attention for several years.

The judgment concerning the Court’s final decision about the welfare of the children, Sheikha Al Jalila bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Sheikh Zayed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, is available here.

The judgment on the issue of publication of the final welfare judgment is available here.

All 17 judgments are listed and available here.

HRH Princess Haya’s official statement is available here. She has asked us to request that, following the conclusion of this litigation, she and the children may be afforded a period of space and privacy.  She respectfully declines any request for further comment.
