Tatler article, ‘All’s Fair: the real-life top female legal power players‘ celebrates top female lawyers leading in family law, trusts and reputation management, in which our very own Victoria Hingston was selected and interviewed.
Tatler states, “The forthcoming highly-anticipated TV series All’s Fair (yes, the one starring Kim Kardashian) is set to put female lawyers centre stage – and for good reason. Away from the screen, women are increasingly shaping the future of family law, bringing a distinctive mix of empathy, strategy and resolve to a profession that deals with people often at their most vulnerable. We spoke to some of the Tatler Address Book‘s real-life power players, the leaders who prioritise solutions over scorched-earth tactics and who are proving that female leadership brings not just fresh energy but tangible results.”
Family law expert Victoria Hingston, Partner at Payne Hicks Beach, added:
‘At school (many moons ago), I knew I wanted a career that would be engaging and enable me to help people in some meaningful way. Work experience in different areas of law then led me to the heady world of family law, and I haven’t looked back. I genuinely enjoy my job and am fortunate enough to work with the best in the business. There is nothing more fulfilling than guiding a client through an emotional crisis and finding resolution.
To succeed as a female lawyer you need stamina, resilience and adaptability… and you (still) have to work harder than the man next to you.
Where once the obvious solution would have been to rush to court and seek a judge’s intervention, I feel it’s important to think creatively: what does my client actually want to achieve? What are their goals? Too often the lure of the courtroom clouds even the best legal minds, when disputes can be dealt with by negotiation and a consensual approach, often saving client’s time and money (and can help parties have a better relationship, post settlement).
I have been fortunate to have been mentored by Baroness Shackleton throughout my career and she has shown me how to treat others with kindness and respect, and the importance of prioritising what matters most. I strive to set the same example and show that you can have it all – just not all at the same time.’
