New statutory guidance on safeguarding children and pupils in education: now is the time to set the tone for the new culture

Article by Ane VernonDispute Resolution Partner and schools and education specialist lawyer at Payne Hicks Beach, in which she sets out the key policy requirements for dealing with reports of sexual abuse, harassment between pupils in schools and colleges. With the ongoing disruptions due to Covid and the normal pressures of the start of the new school year, the urgency of Ofsted’s June review on this topic requires school leaders to go far beyond the norm. The new statutory guidance on keeping children safe in education that has come into force this month is an opportune time to set the tone for the new culture that is so evidently required.
