Associate Solicitor for The Property Litigation Team

The firm wishes to recruit an Associate Solicitor for the Property Litigation Team, ideally 1 – 3 PQE.

The Firm

Payne Hicks Beach is a 45 partner firm of solicitors based in offices at 10 New Square, Lincoln’s Inn.  In total the firm comprises about 200 staff.  The firm provides specialist legal services to private and commercial clients.  We are best known for our family and private client work and are widely regarded as one of the very best of the small number of firms in the UK who provide these specialist services at the highest level.  We also have an excellent reputation in many other areas of law (rated in both Chambers and Legal 500).

Our offices are located in one of the finest squares in London, a building which the firm has occupied since 1770.

More information about the departments and the work of the firm may be found on our website, the address of which is www.phb.co.uk

The Team

The Property Litigation team is a key practice group within the wider Dispute Resolution Department.   The team’s inner core comprises two partners and a senior associate, with support from multi-disciplinary associates, trainees and paralegals.   The work encompasses all aspects of property litigation, including commercial and residential landlord and tenant issues, real property disputes, party wall and rights of light work, TLATA claims and professional negligence matters, along with a specialist leasehold enfranchisement practice.  In addition to its own clients, the team integrates with our Family, Property and Private Client teams on aspects of their work.

The Role

This is an excellent opportunity to slot into the core of the team at junior level, ideally 1-3 PQE.   We seek a committed and enthusiastic candidate who enjoys this area of law and wishes to be a top-performing litigator.  Your designated function alongside the other team members will give many chances for direct client engagement.  The partners see the importance of supportive guidance to develop your abilities, and you will be joining a team that values professional growth in order to offer an effective service to clients.   The Dispute Resolution Department operates a mentoring scheme in which you may take part.

The successful candidate will have dedication and drive to grow and succeed in a top-ranking firm.   You will have acquired solid legal, technical and people skills through your career path to date, and you will have received good training and experience in property law and litigation, ideally with a London firm or larger provincial firm.  You will be expected to demonstrate excellent analytical ability, technical skills and commercial acumen in applying the law and finding solutions.  You will be a self-starter with the drive to go the extra mile for clients and those whom you are supporting internally, founded upon an eye for detail as to both the law and client requirements.  A willingness to apply yourself and learn in order to give your practice the edge over your peers will be important.

In addition to servicing the busy client practice, our desire for continued growth in the sector will make business development an additional key element to your role.  You will develop presentation skills and should be enthusiastic about knowledge base acquisition and sharing through article writing and seminar giving, as well as exploiting all of the opportunities for meeting and developing professional contacts.

This is an opportunity with large potential for the right person in a team at an exciting moment in its development.  We want you to make a contribution that really counts towards our future growth and success.
