BARCLAY V BARCLAY

We acted for Lady Hiroko Barclay in these highly publicised financial remedy proceedings from her former husband Sir Frederick Barclay.

In March 2021 we secured a substantial award for Lady Barclay after a 34 year marriage. The order required Sir Frederick to make two payments to her totalling £100M. £50M was due in June 2021 and the second tranche of £50M was due in April 2022. Sir Frederick was criticised by the court for his “reprehensible” behaviour and failed to honour his obligations under the Court orders. We continued to represent Lady Barclay in her efforts to enforce the orders and Sir Jonathan Cohen commented in 2022, “I cannot leave without paying tribute to W’s solicitors and counsel. They have repeatedly appeared when no funds are available to pay their fees as a result of H’s breaches of court orders. They say that as a matter of honour they cannot leave W unrepresented in the court. That is very much to their credit and I hope an example to others in this case.”
