It is not simply a question of parents being unhappy with academic results. Ane Vernon, Education Disputes Partner at Payne Hicks Beach, is seeing families seek specialist advice over some of the most serious decisions a school can make about a pupil.
‘We are seeing an increasing number of families seek legal advice on disputes involving disciplinary matters and safeguarding concerns. In particular, there has been a notable rise in cases involving exclusions, reflecting a growing willingness among schools to take action in response to alleged misconduct while ensuring compliance, and demonstrating compliance, with their internal policies. We are also regularly instructed on issues relating to examinations, including appeals and other assessment-related disputes.’
