Dominic Crossley comments for the Observer

Privacy & Media Law Partner, Dominic Crossley was quoted in the Observer in an article entitled “True, Apart from the Made-Up Bits”. The article highlighted the rising number of people complaining over their portrayals in “True Life” dramas on Netflix and elsewhere. The article is reproduced below with the Observer’s kind permission.

Amongst the comments from Dominic, he highlights the risk of serious damage to an individual’s reputation that might occur in a streamed drama and states: “Producers of ‘true life dramas’ cannot have their cake and eat it. If they want their show to be deemed to be ‘true’, they cannot then evade all legal responsibility if they get it wrong and defame one of the characters or disregard their privacy.”
