Recent judgement sets precedent on ‘revenge porn’ – Andrew Willan and Nataly Tedone for Informm

A woman has been awarded £97,000 in damages in a civil suit against her former partner, setting precedent for other victims.

On 27 February 2023, a judgement provided valuable precedent for the victims of so-called ‘revenge porn’.

The court found a defendant liable for £97,000 in damages after posting covertly taken naked images of his former partner to a pornographic website. It is understood that this case is the first of its kind to be heard before the civil courts of England and Wales. Our privacy and defamation experts Andrew Willan and Nataly Tedone have written an article for Inforrm on this important ruling.
