“Leeds were caught under a more catch-all provision of failing to act in good faith. In Southampton’s case a fine or a points deduction would have sent the wrong message for teams involved in the play-offs in the future, because the reward of [winning] a play-off final is so high. I think it’s clear this punishment was intended to act as a deterrent for other incidents of spying going forward.”
